Step by Step Guide to Integrate Google Analytics
Integrating Google Analytics into any website is not tough. If your website is made in WordPress, you can find various plugins to put your GA tracking code there (easily).
But before putting code into your website, let’s open a Google Analytics account first.
What you need to Open a Google Analytics
Opening a Google Analytics account is very simple. You just need an email address.
If you’re using Gmail, that’s great. However, you can use any email address to open a Google Analytics account.
Let’s follow the steps:
- Search Google Analytics in Google or any search engine. Or
- Directly type the URL https://accounts.google.com in any browser.
- Start signing up with a valid email address and password.
- Now you’re at the Google Analytics Dashboard.
- You have to proceed with a few steps. In the first step you have to set up your account.
- Under account setup section, insert your account details such as your business details (business name)
- Check Google product or service, and other relevant checkboxes.
- Now in the property setup, you need to name your business as property as well.
- Choose the preferred country (your country like India)
- Choose the timezone of your country as well.
- Select the currency.
- Go to the next section of About your Business and then choose your niche or industry.
- Now choose business size i.e. small, medium, large or very large.
- Simply check all important checkboxes to satisfy your intention to use GA.
- Finally press the ‘Create’ button.
- One terms of service agreement will appear before you. Carefully choose your country and accept the data processing terms by Google itself.
- You need to accept (checkbox) measurement controller data protection terms for use as well using the ‘I accept’ button.
- Now you’re in the Google Analytics dashboard.
- Go to the data stream under property to choose your Google Analytics platform (iOS, Android, Web).
- For general purpose choose Web and proceed setup.
- You need to insert your website’s url and name of your website and press the ‘Create Stream’ button.
- You can get your measurement id from Google Analytics.
- Now you need to scroll down and choose Google Site Tag.
- Copy the tracking code and paste it to the header section of your website and paste it after the <head> tag of your website.

- First go to the https://tagmanager.google.com/ or directly type Google Tag Manager in Google or any search engine.
- Then sign in there with an email address and password.
- After that, click on Create Account using the create account button.

- country (India),
- container (website) setup
- choose target platform (eg. web) accordingly.
- Now copy and paste the Google Tag Manager Code into your website or web property (into the header section under <head> and <body>.
- Now you need to create a tag for Google Analytics.

Understand Google Analytics Dashboard Well
When you are using an app or website, the dashboard is essential to understand to use it properly.
Google Analytics dashboard consists of
- Home to show an overview
- Customization to create and manage report
- Real Time traffic to know present traffic status
- Audience to understand the source of it
- Acquisition to know ratio of organic, social, referral, direct etc traffic.
- Behavior including landing page, exit rate etc.
- Finally track your conversion.

Google analytics home helps to understand an overview of your business. You can understand no users, sessions, bounce rates, and more.
Even under this section, you can understand your real-time visitors as well.
If you scroll down, you’ll see the traffic channels including sources.
Another feature you may look for is active users’ trending timing.
You can check your retaining visitors weekly even.
Apart from the above, you can know users’ timing including their countries (eg. India or the US, or others) and devices (mobile or Tablet PC or Desktop).
Along with the above, you can check popular pages within a date range (eg. 7 days).

The audience section gives you a detailed idea about –

- Screen resolution and
- Service Provider

Apart from the above, you can check your lifetime value including:

You can check the behavior using the following:

GA provides various attributes. You can create your own project there using this Attribute section.
